Daikon. Dai means "big," and kon means "root." Daikon means "big root." Dai signifie "grand", et kon signifie racine. Daikon veut dire "grande racine".
Here is a corpulent specimen of the Japanese staple (kindly provided by Dr. Minamimagari, a surgeon who comes to my English conversation classes).
