Sayonara・左様なら . . . ?

This is a bit late in coming, but I just want to give a big thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to my friends and family who visited my blog for the past year, even when I neglected to update it, even when I was preachy or unfocused. It did mean a lot to me, so wherever you are (France or Japan, Boston or Bahrain), thank you. It will be the least I can do to keep up with you, so expect a message from me soon.

Last year was a treasure that I won't soon forget, and though I'm far away from Kimotsuki now, it will stay in my heart as my first home in Japan. To see again the friends I made there (both Japanese and otherwise) will be a cherished wish and, I hope, one soon and often realized.

The term "sayonara" is used in English to mean "goodbye forever," but the original Japanese term doesn't necessarily carry the same finality. It just means "well, with that (we part)." The next encounter, whether in a year or five, will be a beautiful thing. Until then!

Je veux vous remercier tous, mes proches et mes amis, d'avoir lu mon blog et de vous être intéressés à ma vie nipponne. C'était un grand confort de savoir que vous suiviez mes nouvelles, que vous soyez en France ou au Japon, à Boston ou au Bahreïn.

Cette année m'était un trésor que je n'oublierai pas. Bien que je suis actuellement loin de Kimotsuki, je m'y sentirai toujours chez moi. J'éspère bien voir tous mes amis, les japonais comme les étrangers, très bientôt.

En français, le terme "sayonara" signifie "adieu pour toujours," mais la phrase japonaise veut dire simplement "alors, avec ça (je te quitte)." Notre prochaine rencontre, que ce soit en un an ou cinq, sera magnifique. À bientôt, les amis !

皆さん、光陰矢のごとし．．．一年間、肝付でいろいろお世話になりました。一生返せない恩だと思います。でも、一生付き合い続きたい友達がいっぱいできて、私は本当にラッキーでした。これからも日本に戻りたいので、何遍も「日本の出身」の肝付に帰省する積もりです。その間に、みな空の便りはいつでも送ってください。まだ頑張っているゲーブとコディの日々も面白いと思いますので、ALTの活躍についても知らせてください。
