Ísleifur Gissurarson--the first bishop of Iceland--probably had a food taster. Ísleifur Gissurarson, premier évêque de l'Islande, avait sans doute un gouteur.

The principal and vice-principal at my schools eat the same lunch as students and the rest of the teachers, but they're served about an hour before everyone else. The nominal reason is that they are acting as "food tasters" before the kids eat their lunch! This is apparently common in Japan. I had to introduce a teacher to the word "flabbergasted" in order to convey my feelings.

In other news, the Icelandic government has taken over Iceland's largest bank, Kaupthing--which may have been suffering from a lack of brand recognition (my own commentary).

Le directeur et l'adjoint du directeur mangent le même déjeuner que les élèves et les autres professeurs, mais ils prennent leur déjeuner une heure à l'avance. Pourquoi ? On m'a expliqué que ils servent comme "gouteurs" avant que les gosses n'en mangent ! Le phénomène serait habituel partout dans le pays. J'ai eu à employer le mot "flabbergasted" (stupéfié) pour m'exprimer lorsque on me l'a dit.

Puis, le gouvernement islandais a pris la diréction de Kaupthing, la première banque du pays. Peut-être son nom flou ("thing" veut dire "chose" en anglais) aurait contribué à ses problèmes ?)
